Scholar aims to make urban environments in Bhutan inclusive, sustainable and green
Posted: 25 April 2024
Samdrup Norbu is a scholar from Bhutan pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Adelaide with the support of an Australia Awards Scholarship. In the following video, he reflects on his positive experience of studying in Australia over the past year.
Samdrup appreciates his professors’ support and guidance in fulfilling his study objectives, particularly in using various software programs and tools relevant to landscape architecture. Additionally, attending scholar enrichment events, including the Scholars Forum in Canberra and the Scholars Symposium in Adelaide, both of which were organised by Australia Awards, allowed him to connect with officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other Australian institutions, as well as fellow scholars from South Asia and Mongolia.
Samdrup’s Scholarship experience has been further enriched by the fact that Australia Awards supported his family to accompany him. This means his daughter is attending childcare in Australia, which he hopes will benefit her future development.
Samdrup sees his studies equipping him with the necessary knowledge and skills to address urban challenges in Bhutan, particularly the need for sustainable, resilient and inclusive open and green spaces.
